Places to Eat in and around ChardThere is a good choice of restaurants and pubs to suit all pockets within a short walk of the guest house. Whether you are looking for a quick snack or three course dinner, Chard has some excellent places to eat. There are also many delightful village pubs within a short drive of the town, where you can sample local ales and ciders and enjoy a leisurely lunch or relaxing supper surrounded by the beautiful countryside. Further afield but only approximately 30 minutes drive away, are the coastal towns of Devon and Dorset which offer you the opportunity to enjoy freshly caught seafood and local produce. Mark Hix's Oyster and Fish House is near the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage venue and restaurant are 15 minutes away at Axminster. In addition to restaurants and pubs, Chard also has a large number of supermarkets (including Tesco and Sainsbury's), local bakeries and butchers and takeaways.
During the Summer we offer all our guests the opportunity to place an order for cream teas at the time of booking their accommodation. The scones are homemade and freshly baked on the day and are served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. This is one of the unique experiences of Somerset and the West Country.
The tea and coffee used for the cream teas is the same as that used in the guest house and is provided by D.J. Miles & Co of Porlock in Somerset. Established in 1888 they produce the best blends to suit the local water resulting in an exquisite and refreshing cup of tea or coffee. Why not visit their Factory Shop at Porlock whilst in the area. We source our clotted cream from local suppliers and only use West Country milk whenever possible.
